Drachiella minuta (Kylin) Maggs et Hommersand


Description: Thallus foliose, small to 5 cms long with very short stipe, sometimes deeply devided dichotomously. May reattach at edge of the delicate thallus margin. Without veins and three cells rhick when mature.

Habitat: Very rare. Epilithic or epiphytic in the sublittoral.

Distribution: British Isles: only recorded from Cos Devon and Cornwall in England, Cos Clare, Sligo and Donegal in Ireland and Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Portugal, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France. Further afield: Canary Islands and Morocco.

Similar Species: Other species with fan-shaped blades. Rhodophyllis divaricata has blades three cells thick.
