Description: Thallus foliose attached by minute discoid holdfast. Blade flat, monostromatic, up to 70 mm long and 33 mm broad. Dark red to purple in colour
Habitat: Common. Epilithic on stones and boulders and epiphytic on Laminaria and Saccorhiza in the shallow sublittoral.
Distribution: Widespread but generally more common on the southern shores of the British Isles. Europe: France.
