Coccotylus truncata (Pallas) M Wynne et J Heine


Description: Thallus consists of erect fronds growing from a discoid holdfast, producing erect branching stipes which expand to form branching blades up to 15 cms long.

Habitat: Relatively common in appropriate habitats. Epilithic from the very low littoral into the sublittoral to a depth of 15 m.

Distribution: Basically of northern distribution in the British Isles: northern Ireland, north Wales, Isle of Man and Scotland including the Shetlands. Europe: the Baltic, Norway, Sweden, Faroes and Iceland. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada to New Jersey. Further afield: Arctic Sea from Spitzbergen, the Murman Sea, the White Sea and Novaya Zemlya.
