Description: Thalli small and thin, growing to about 6 mm diameter with a smooth surface. Encrusting on Corallina.
Habitat: Common. Epiphytic, mainly on Corallina and Furcellaria occasionally elsewhere. Littoral in rock pools and sublittoral to 15 m depth.
Distribution: Throughout the British Isles including the Channel Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Baltic and the Faroes. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Further afield: the Canary Isles, Pacific U.S.A., Japan, Australia, New Zealand, west and South Africa.
