Description: Encrusting coralline spreading to 6 cms in diameter and 4 mm thick, flat with no upright branches. A thick margin without orbital ridges and showing fine delicate watermarks.
Habitat: Quite common. Epilithic and epizoic in low littoral and sublittoral to 90 m.
Distribution: Generally around the British Isles. Europe: Spain to Norway. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada and Massachusetts.
Similar Species: Phymatolithon laevigatum.
