Lesueurigobius friesii |
Description: This goby grows up to 10 and is blue-grey and yellow, with distinctive yellow fin markings - bright yellow edging and spots - on the dorsal, caudal and anal fins. Adults have brown or golden-yellow spots on their body, although these can be less apparent on juveniles. Males have an extended ray at the front of their first dorsal fin.
Habitat: Burrows in soft mud from around 10 m to 300 m. Seems to like habitat similar to Nephrops norvegicus, and may share burrows with this species.
Distribution: Often found offshore around Britain and Ireland, probably under-recorded in shallow waters due to habitat preference.
Similar Species: Gobies can look superficially similar but this goby has distinctive yellow markings on its fins, and prefers very soft mud.
