Description: This solitary ascidian is found buried in clean gravel or shell gravel, flush with the surface and with the siphons protruding. The test is entirely covered with adhering gravel particles apart from a bare area around and between the siphons. There is usually a white pattern or mark between the siphons.

Habitat: Exposed or moderately exposed bays with clean gravel or shell gravel substrata.

Distribution: Found all round the British Isles and may be frequent in suitable localities but rather local.

Similar Species: Molgula occulta has a very similar name, but lives in more muddy sediments. Polycarpa fibrosa has a similar size and habit.
