Description: A small, conical limpet with a single oval opening at the apex of the shell. It can be up to 4 cm in length. The shell is markedly ridged and usually white to grey in colour but occasionally can be yellow, orange or red. The mantle is thick, with wart-like papillae on the surface, and the body shape is oval, with a small head bearing two tentacles. The foot is surrounded by 30-35 tentacles which alternate between long and short lengths.

Habitat: Found under boulders and in overhangs on rocky shores, from low water mark to depths of up to 250 m.

Distribution: Found on all coasts of Britain and Ireland, except east coast of Britain.

Similar Species: Unlikely to be confused with any other species.
