Species description: A solitary ascidian with a smooth, translucent test which is ranges from off-white to pale orange. Individuals can be entirely one colour or a mixture of the two. It can grow up to 8 cm, but is more commonly 2-4 cm. It is relatively flat, attached on one side, with 2 short siphons that have an orange tinge. One siphon is at top of the body, the other is on the upper surface and slightly to the right and they do not usually close fully/tightly. The c-shaped gut is normally easily visible, full of silt, in a smooth curve at the hind end.

Habitat: Hard substrata, often artificial structures in marinas etc., but also recorded on lower shore on rocks and under boulders in sheltered areas.

Distribution: First recorded in Britain and Ireland in 2004, and is now widely distributed around all coasts, both in natural and artificial settings.

Similar Species: Could potentially be confused with Ascidiella aspersa but A. aspersa siphons are different, the test is less smooth, it is generally more upright and does not have a c-shaped gut.
