Bembidion bruxellense Wesmael, 1835

Description: 4-5.2mm long black ground beetle with four dull orange-brown spots on the elytra. Moist, sparsely vegetated ground generally. Widespread.

NI account: One of the more widespread Bembidion species, second only to B. tetracolum within subgenus Peryphus. Found throughout, except on the higher hills or on deep peat.

Ecology: Characteristic of a variety of water margin habitats, as well as clayey agricultural land. Often found in company with Bembidion tetracolum and species of Subgenus Philochthus in Ireland.

Distribution: A Eurasian Boreo-temperate species (55), distributed from Scandinavia to southern Europe and east into central Siberia.
