Notiophilus substriatus Waterhouse, 1833

Description: Small (4.5-5.5mm) bronze ground beetle with faint greenish reflection. In Ireland restricted more or less to the eastern half and to coastal or other well-drained situations.

NI account: Widespread but confined to well-drained lowland sites and rarer than the other species. Possibly more in eastern coastal localities than elsewhere.

Ecology: Recorded mainly from well-drained agricultural soils, a habitat also occupied by N. biguttatus but undoubtedly very much scarcer than that species.

Distribution: A European Southern-temperate species (83) found from Spain and Italy northwards to Holland, western Germany and the British Isles.
